Concept Publishing
Concept Publishing is a premier publishing house based in Bath city centre. They sell advertising space for free magazines that they place in cinemas nationwide. Their production department had historically produced each magazine page manually, a process which was prone to duplication and other errors. Having already worked with this client on other projects, they approached us to build an intranet-based application which would allow sales staff to position adverts on pages and a build server which would automate production of the PDFs ready to go to print. The resultant system needed to integrate with their existing sales database and the project required very close working with the in-house IT department.
Version 1 of the system cut production time for one magazine from 4 weeks and 13 staff down to 2 weeks and 4 staff. The client was then able to produce many more magazines. Version 2 of the system, built in 2006, added more features and handed over more control to admin users, vastly reducing the technical support required by the client both internally and externally. Ideas for version 3 are already being discussed.
